Dear colleagues,

In an effort to provide instructors with clearer, more equitable access to high-quality opportunities to advance their teaching and build on the success of the collaboration that produced the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø website, I am establishing the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø instructional support network. The network consists of a Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Executive Sponsor Group, a Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Leadership Committee, and a Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Advisory Council.

In addition to providing instructors with instructional support that is tri-campus de novo, the creation of a network will reduce duplication of effort, freeing up staff and faculty time to create more specialized, campus-specific support for instructors. It will also create a clear mechanism to gather faculty insights and input on instructional support unit efforts and support campus leaders’ advocacy efforts around teaching and learning.

I ask that you serve in this new structure as a member of the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Advisory Council.

Your charge

As a member of the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Advisory Council, you will provide feedback and guidance to help instructional support structures better meet the needs of instructors across ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s three campuses. Members will:

  1. Attend twice yearly Advisory Council meetings
  2. Advise the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Leadership Committee on strategy, programming, and resource development that advances teaching excellence across ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s three campuses and across teaching modalities
  3. Share information on new instructional support resources with colleagues (e.g., sending to instructors in home academic units, to faculty governance bodies, mailing lists, etc.) at the member’s home campus
  4. Consult with colleagues (e.g., faculty in home academic units, faculty governance bodies, instructional support staff, etc.) and bring emerging instructional support issues to the attention of the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Leadership Committee
  5. Serve as a sounding board for the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø leadership committee and tri-campus instructional support efforts on new activities in the planning stages

Membership of this advisory council includes representatives from ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s three campuses from a range of roles and disciplines to reflect the diversity of teaching and learning contexts and experiences. Together, you will advise the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Leadership Committee – the team that led the creation of the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø website, including pedagogical support leads from each ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø campus. Your input, along with guidance from Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Executive Sponsors – the vice provost and vice chancellors responsible for instructional support units on each ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø campus – will inform decision-making and program development.

There may be modest requests for review of materials outside of meetings and for sharing information with colleagues. However, the majority of your participation will involve attending advisory council meetings and sharing your thoughts on topics brought to you by members of the Teaching@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Leadership Committee, who will coordinate, set agendas, and attend all meetings.

The term of service for faculty members on the Advisory Council will be two years with an option to renew. Members representing the Faculty Council on Teaching and Learning, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø-IT, and Continuum College will serve on an ongoing basis.
