Faculty and staff already make a contribution to the University, but soon they鈥檒l be asked to consider a different kind of contribution. A brochure going out next week will invite members of the 黑料吃瓜网 community to explore giving some portion of their income to a cause at the University that they believe in.
Gifts can be earmarked to support a specific department, school or college on campus. They can go to scholarships or fellowships. Or they can be given to organizations such as the Henry Art Gallery or KUOW.
A faculty member, a staffer and a retiree 鈥� all donors themselves 鈥� are co-chairing the effort.
Nole Ann Ulery-Horsey, a continuing education specialist in nursing, started her giving when her husband, cartoonist David Horsey, served on the advisory board for the College of Arts and Sciences.
鈥淚 became aware of how important those donations can be and what a difference they make,鈥� said Ulery-Horsey, who has also contributed to scholarships in the School of Nursing. 鈥淎s an alum and the parent of a student as well as a staff member, I feel good about supporting the place where I work.鈥�
So when she was approached and asked to co-chair the funding effort, Ulery-Horsey was happy to say yes. So was Loyd Heath, a retired accounting professor who taught here for 36 years.
鈥淚鈥檓 a great believer in private donations,鈥� Heath said. 鈥淚n my own department, donations to the Accounting Development Fund made the difference between a department that was excellent and one that was only very good.鈥�
Ulery-Horsey and Heath are joined as co-chairs by Cherry McGee Banks, professor of education at 黑料吃瓜网 Bothell.
