"ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has brought me the opportunity to grow and learn through integrating myself into interdisciplinary innovations alongside the brightest individuals around me. As a passionate learner, a growing scientist, a woman of color, and a community leader, I hope to inspire others to tackle all odds of challenges ahead of them. I’ll be taking my husky experience through and beyond my time at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as I continue to explore the intersection between the two novel fields of life sciences and technology."
SERVING THE 42ND LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT
The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø facilitates hundreds of programs in communities across the state. Below are a few that operate in your district. Programs active as of January 2023.
Washington Sea Grant
is part of a national network of Sea Grant programs administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. For over 50 years, WSG has funded high impact research projects and partnered with communities, businesses, educators and the public to advance regional understanding and sustainable use of our ocean and coastal resources. Washington Sea Grant strives to support healthy, productive and resilient coastal and marine ecosystems that sustain our state’s diverse cultural and maritime heritage, vibrant coastal communities, clean waters and beaches, prosperous fisheries and aquaculture, and diverse wildlife.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in the High School
Through the program, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can complete ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø courses — and earn college credit — in their own classrooms with their own teachers. Teachers are approved and trained by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø faculty to teach official ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø courses using ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø curriculum, activities, texts, tests and grading scales. Participating students can earn college credits at a fraction of the cost, and these credits are accepted by most colleges and universities across Washington and around the country. Partner high schools can offer ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø coursework in computer science, math, science, world languages, humanities and social sciences. .ÌýÌý
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø INSPIRE
supports western Washington educators of pre-K through 12th grade with reciprocal research-practice partnerships, focusing on student thinking and giving educators the opportunity to learn alongside children, improving instruction and student achievement. Fueled by innovative local educators at all levels of the public-school system and supported by local philanthropists and individual donors, INSPIRE is coordinated by a team of faculty, staff and graduate students at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø College of Education.
Pacific Northwest Seismic Network
The (PNSN), a partnership between the University of Oregon and the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, is dedicated to reducing impacts of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in Washington and Oregon by providing accurate and timely information about earthquakes and ground motions to scientists, engineers, planners and the public. The second-largest seismic network in the United States, PNSN has more than 300 seismograph stations as well as several offices and personnel across the region.
