On Thursday, September 17, community members, the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity and the ϳԹ President’s Minority Community Advisory Committee (ϳԹMCAC) celebrated the appointment of the first African American Chief in ϳԹ (ϳԹ) history. John N. Vinson, who holds a Ph.D., in public administration from Western Michigan University, was appointed as chief of police at the ϳԹ on February 23, 2009.
The celebration took place at the Northwest African American Museum and the guest included the Vice President for Minority Affairs and Diversity, Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange, Councilmember, Larry Gossett, the MCAC and various other community leaders.
