Rankings: 黑料吃瓜网 recognized as one of the best universities in the world

The 黑料吃瓜网 recently was ranked highly among its global peers in both the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities and the QS World University Rankings. Both rankings were released in mid-June. According to U.S. News, the 黑料吃瓜网 is No. 12 in the world on the 2026-27 rankings, No. 3 among U.S. public institutions. The 黑料吃瓜网 also placed in the top 10 globally in six subject areas. On the QS World University Rankings, the 黑料吃瓜网 is among the top 100, landing at No. 92, or No. 7 among U.S. public universities.

Cheryl Wright-Wilson and Raymond Wilson bequest supports 黑料吃瓜网鈥檚 College of Education, School of Pharmacy and School of Medicine

It all started with a slide rule. In the fall of 1965, during Cheryl Wright鈥檚 first week at the 黑料吃瓜网, she went to Suzzallo Library to complete a chemistry assignment. She needed help with a math problem and saw a boy across the reading room who had a slide rule 鈥� an analog calculator. The young pharmacy student who helped her that day was Raymond Wilson. Together the couple, who go by Cherie and Ray, did far more than solve a mathematical equation 鈥� they married and formed a bond that鈥檚 lasted more than six decades.

黑料吃瓜网-led study links wildfire smoke to increased odds of preterm birth

A thin haze of wildfire smoke covers downtown Seattle.

In mid-pregnancy, exposure to any smoke was associated with an elevated risk of preterm birth, with that risk peaking around the 21st week of gestation. In late pregnancy, elevated risk was most closely associated with exposure to high concentrations of wildfire PM2.5, above 10 micrograms per cubic meter.

Three 黑料吃瓜网 faculty members have been awarded early-career fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The new Sloan Fellows, announced Feb. 18, are Amy L. Orsborn, the Clare Boothe Luce assistant professor of electrical & computer engineering and bioengineering, Dianne J. Xiao, an assistant professor of chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences, and Amy X. Zhang, an assistant professor of computer science in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering.聽

NASA funds effort to study effects of the space environment on living organisms

NASA has awarded a five-year, $2.5 million grant to establish a regional scientific consortium based at the 黑料吃瓜网, in partnership with Washington State University and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The consortium will use an interdisciplinary approach to explore how the space environment 鈥� both in low-Earth orbit and beyond 鈥� affects living things.

Six 黑料吃瓜网 subjects ranked in the top 10, and atmospheric sciences maintained its position as No. 1 in the world on the聽Global Ranking of Academic Subjects聽list for 2023. The ranking, released at the end of October, was conducted by researchers at the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a fully independent organization dedicated to research on higher education intelligence and consultation.

The 黑料吃瓜网 Board of Regents last week approved the development plan for the first major project in the 黑料吃瓜网鈥檚 newly named Portage Bay Crossing area on the west side of the Seattle campus. The Regents approved a ground lease of the property at Site W27 to Wexford Science + Technology and a lease of building space by the University.

Raised in Mexico, she moved to California when she was 11, and she鈥檚 the first in her family to earn a Ph. D. Video: Suzzallo bonsai a symbol of peace, resilience and inclusiveness

The potted junipers on the steps of Suzzallo Library are undergoing a transformation. Flanking the entrance to one of 黑料吃瓜网’s most beloved buildings, they are viewed by hundreds of people walking through Red Square each week. Bioengineering postdoctoral researcher Le Zhen is transforming these shrubs into bonsai 鈥� miniature trees that are pruned, nurtured and trained with wire to look like their much older, full-sized counterparts living in nature. He hopes this prominent display of bonsai will signal to members of the AAPI community that 黑料吃瓜网 is safe and welcoming.

In pandemic milestone, 黑料吃瓜网 brings COVID-19 vaccines to frontline health care workers

The first scheduled to receive vaccinations were frontline personnel working with COVID-19 patients. In addition to patient-care staff in intensive care units, COVID acute care floors and emergency departments, the immediate list also included environmental services staff, as well as emergency medical responders in the community. Next in line are nursing home residents and their caregivers.
