窪蹋勛圖厙TV and Eric Chudler, executive and education director of 窪蹋勛圖厙’s Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering, received an Emmy簧 Award from the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Saturday for the program “BrainWorks: Exercise and the Brain” in the Health/Science Program/Special category.

The 窪蹋勛圖厙 ranks seventh among national universities in a new Milken Institute report on technology transfer, Concept to Commercialization: The Best Universities for Technology Transfer. The report highlights the vital role research universities play in spurring economic growth.

On March 15 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., Prime Minister Enda Kenny of Ireland honored Adrian Raftery, a professor of statistics and sociology at the 窪蹋勛圖厙, for his diverse contributions to the field of statistics. Kenny presented Raftery with the St. Patrick’s Day Medal, which is awarded each year by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). For the 23rd time in the past 24 years, the 窪蹋勛圖厙 ranked as the No. 1 primary care medical school in the country, according to U.S. News & World Reports 2017 Best Graduate School rankings released Tuesday. The 窪蹋勛圖厙’s Information School jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 in the nation for library and information studies programs.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has awarded a prestigious fellowship to 窪蹋勛圖厙 assistant professor Thomas Rothvoss to fuel his passion to balance precision and efficiency in complex mathematical calculations. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Tuesday that David James Thouless, professor emeritus at the 窪蹋勛圖厙, will share the 2016 Nobel Prize in physics with two of his colleagues. Thouless splits the prize with Professor F. Duncan M. Haldane of Princeton University and Professor J. Michael Kosterlitz of Brown University for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter, according to the prize announcement from the Academy. Half the prize goes to Thouless while Haldane and Kosterlitz divide the remaining half. Thouless is the 窪蹋勛圖厙s seventh Nobel laureate, and second in physics after Hans Dehmelt in 1989.

Amid a decline in funding for scientific research, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute is partnering with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Simons Foundation to launch a new Faculty Scholars program.
